Edinburgh Sick Kids A and E Department Artworks Rational

Coming to an accident and emergency department is in the main a very frightening experience. Often in pain, uncertain what may be wrong, worried about what might happen, possibly having just been through a trauma – even for adults all this will put us in a high state of anxiety, for children even more so.

During my time on the A and E ward I saw time and time again the amazing ability of the staff to interact with children. By calming and distracting the child medical intervention was possible.

The following proposal aims to create artworks for the new A and E Ward that not only helps to alleviate stress, distract children from pain, but also be used by staff to help build a relationship with the child.
