Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Ravensmead Primary School, Stoke on Trent. [< back to Schools >]

WW2 was a time full of both euphoria and tragedy. A time of anticipated adventure but also of fear, dread and apprehension, of heart warming homecomings and celebration. The butterflies, ladybirds and fish flutter and dance within the magical landscape, whilst the children enact scenes of the hardship endured, from bombs on the beach to much loved family members leaving home. Somewhere Over the Rainbow aims to reflect this time of conflicting emotions, walking over the enchanted landscape, the stories of hardship unfold.
The floor piece is made using digital photography and printed onto a specialist dance floor. More than 200 separate photographs are digitally manipulated to create the ‘unreal’ landscape. The children were all photographed from above during the dance sessions, to give the impression they are within the landscape itself.
